Welsh-born writer-director Gareth Evans and Indonesian martial arts sensation Iko Uwais, the pairing responsible for the acclaimed martial arts extravaganza “Merantau Warrior”.

Synopsis:
Deep in the heart of one of Jakarta’s most deprived slums stands an impenetrable high-rise apartment block. To most it is 30 floors of Hell to be avoided at all cost but for many of the city’s most dangerous killers and gangsters, including the area’s most notorious crime lord, it is a fortress-like safe house protecting them from the law. Even for the bravest and most experienced police officers it is considered a no-go area.
In a desperate bid to flush these violent criminals and their leader from their haven once and for all, an elite SWAT team is tasked with infiltrating the building and raiding the apartments floor by floor, taking out anyone who stands in their way. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness, the SWAT members make their move and enter the block not realizing that this is the easier part of the mission. Once inside, it soon becomes terrifyingly apparent that the real problem at hand is surviving long enough to be able to get out again.

Adding further terror to the situation, the shelter is unexpectedly attacked by mysterious armed assailants wearing hazmat suits, their motives unknown but their merciless method of assault all too clear. This new threat forces the trapped victims to unite against a common enemy but it is a unity that proves to be short-lived.

Well Folks it was bound to happen and later in the year it will be upon us, yes that's right The Walking Dead Video game, i personally love a good Zombie game and my personal favourite of all time has to be Resident Evil 4 on the PS2, So who knows what will happen within The Walking Dead game, will it be different from the comic book? Will it be based upon the story arc shown within the TV show? What character or characters will you be able to play as and most importantly will you get to shoot annoying characters without any reprisals within the game?ha!
Looks pretty good to me though, bring it on!

Corman's World-review by Jonny T.

Hello Folks,
Well i do love a good documentary and i have to say that this was is good, no in fact it is FANTASTIC!
This new documentary focus's on the weird and truly wonderful world of film maker the legend that is Roger Corman, Starting right back to one of his 1st films Creature from the ocean floor right up to his present day involvement with SYFY channel films this documentary leaves no stone unturned, The shear amount of stars and directors that Roger Corman has helped start out in cinema is incredible and this documentary features interviews with a hell of a lot of these people, people such as Martin Scorcese, Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Quentin Tarantino, Pam Grier, David Carradine, the list goes on and on.

Although known mainly as the king of the "B" movies this documentary shows that Roger Corman is way much more than that for example there is a segment dedicated to one of his early pretty much unseen films called The Intruder which involves the racial tensions of the 1940's ad 50's in American and at the time of release was uber controversial but shows a much deeper side to Cormans film making, So over the years Corman got pretty much disillusioned with all the big executives and there decisions on either budget cuts or wanting him to change things with his films that on many many occasions he just got out of his contract and ended up making films for himself with his brother, he could have been himself a big hotshot Hollywood director but as with many of his rebel characters in his films he always did things his own way and looking at the gems and people he helped out and discovered over the years today's cinema should be more that grateful for his actions, He even started up his own distribution company for foreign films as he had seen films that the world needed to see and indeed we did, i salute you Roger!

So in summing up this is by far one of the best documentaries on a film maker i have even seen, insightful, highly entertaining and as i said a ton of celebrity interviews the most hilarious ones in my opinion has to be the Jack Nicholson ones, great stuff.
He should surely be nominated for a lifetime achievement award because without him cinema over the last 50 years would have been a lot duller place,
Brilliant Stuff. 10/10 Jonny.
Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel (cert. 15) will be available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray from 26th March 2012.

Urban Explorers-review by Gavin Jennings.

Urban Explorers (2011) Blu ray review

Urban exploration or ‘Urbex’ is the examination of normally unseen or off-limits parts of urban areas or industrial facilities. My hopes of reviewing a documentary in the style of ‘Time Team’ etc have been dashed by a low budget Euro slash flick similar in style to Creep, Wolf creek, and the Descent. I like the potential of the subterranean setting but will the film manage to lift itself out of the gutter? Let’s take a look...
A group of young thrill seekers from all over the globe pay a complete stranger to take them into the vast maze of corridors and dangerous structures underneath Metropolitan Berlin in the hope of seeing newly discovered Nazi propaganda. Completely unfazed by a run in with two Neo Nazi punks the group continue exploring until one of the team is injured, effectively splitting them up. Coming to their rescue is Armin, a former East German border guard who just might be able to get them back to the surface if he wasn’t a complete fucking psycho! What follows is a game of cat and mouse with award winning make-up effects and a fantastic performance from Klaus Stiglmeier as Armin.

Sadly there is nothing going on that we haven’t already seen before and the plot quickly descends from bad to downright stupid which ruins any tension that Armin creates. The characters make unrealistic decisions that land them in deeper trouble and you would have to be a complete idiot to think that a killer dressed in tramps clothing with cuts on his face can fool a subway train carriage full of passengers into believing that he is a ticket conductor! The action is pretty well shot with some interesting albeit unnecessary camera tricks but there was never a time when I felt that they were making good use of the unique Urbex theme. This is a real let down as it is the only thing that could have separated it from being a ‘Hostel’ clone. The DTSHD soundtrack rocks but it amplifies the already over the top sound effects and the picture is also fairly average for a Blu-ray transfer. It’s not terrible, and it might be down to the dark environments, but it isn’t a massive improvement over the cheaper and perfectly adequate DVD. There were no special features on the preview either which is a shame considering that Urban Exploring is such an exciting subject. Why are there not any documentaries, it seems like a missed opportunity.
In all honesty I didn’t particularly like Urban Explorers. It squanders the potentially fascinating subject matter in favour of average shocks which is a shame as at one point it felt like it was on the verge of greatness. Whilst the make-up effects are impressive and betray the otherwise low budget feel the story and its ridiculous turns keep this film firmly rooted in the basement. How this won best picture at ‘Screamfest’ film festival is beyond me!
4/10

Crows Zero comes to DVD-Takashi Miike.

Hello folks,
Just some new of an upcoming great release Crows Zero from the legendary director Takashi Miike, Miike it does have to be said is one of the best directors working today, such a diverse range of work ranging from such classics as Audition to the obscure Zebraman and even the more bizarre and twisted Visitor Q, So its great to see Crows Zero getting a UK release and lets hope this leads to more great release from Miike's back catalogue, all details below,
Jonny T.

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF “AUDITION”, “ICHI THE KILLER” AND “13 ASSASSINS”.

From prolific and controversial director Takashi Miike, the man behind such diverse cult movie hits as “Audition”, “Ichi The Killer” and “13 Assassins”, comes Crows Zero, another visionary, super-stylish and off-the-wall study of violence that plays out like a high school version of “Fight Club” and has been described by as “effective, engaging, touching and hugely entertaining” (Todd Brown, Twitch).
Based on the bestselling manga by Hiroshi Takahashi (screenwriter of the original Japanese “Ring” movies), Crows Zero is certainly one of Miike’s most accessible and commercially successful movies in years, proving to be one of his biggest box office hits to date in his native Japan and even spawning an equally successful sequel.
The notorious Suzuran Senior High School for Boys is Japan’s lowest achieving and most violent school, nicknamed “The School of Crows” after its students’ tendency to band together in conflicting factions and battling each other for domination. The one thing they all share is a common goal that has never been achieved in the school’s history: unification. No single faction has ever reigned supreme. But that could be about to change.
Genji Takiya, a recent transfer student from a rival school, has set his sights on taking over Suzuran High School before graduation. The only person standing in his way is Suzuran’s toughest and most respected senior, Tamao Serizawa. It looks like an even match until Genji gains a slight advantage when he finds an unlikely mentor in the shape of Ken Katagiri, an old boy yakuza gang member with something to prove and a score to settle.
Violent, amusing, energetic and effortlessly cool, Crows Zero sees Takashi Miike at the peak of his directorial powers producing a movie that boasts both cult sensibilities and mainstream appeal.
Crows Zero (cert. tbc) will be released on DVD (£15.99) by MVM on 9th April 2012.

Corman's World coming to DVD and Blu-Ray!

Hey all,
Just some news of  a release coming soon, a documentary called Corman's World, telling the story of the great man Roger Corman, one of the last few surviving true greats of exploitation cinema, now i love a great film documentary such has Not Quite Hollywood or Machete Maidens and this is looking like it could easily be up there with those great Documentaries, so i have stuck all the details below and watch this space for the review coming soon,
Enjoy,
Jonny T.

"A MOVIE BUFFS DELIGHT" 4 stars (Daily Express), "A SUPREMELY WATCHABLE DOCUMENTARY" 4 stars (Guardian)

The remarkable story of Hollywood’s most prolific and influential writer-director-producer, the legendary Roger Corman, is the subject of director Alex Stapleton’s affectionate, witty and hugely entertaining documentary, Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel, which charts the Oscar winning filmmaker’s career from his early days working in the mail room at 20th Century Fox to the set of one of his most recently produced “creature features”, “Dinoshark”.
Essential viewing for every cineaste, Corman’s World is “a delightful tribute” (Variety) to a true Hollywood great and one that proves to be thrilling, fun, informative and frequently touching (witness a rare and genuinely emotional scene featuring Jack Nicholson that, alone, makes this an unmissable documentary).
Leaving no doubt as to Corman’s seminal influence on modern-day cinema, the film features enlightening interviews with an incredible cavalcade of Hollywood icons, luminaries and A-listers (many of whom began their own careers working under Corman), including Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Joe Dante, Quentin Tarantino, John Sayles, Jonathan Demme, Eli Roth, Peter Fonda, Peter Bogdanovich, William Shatner and countless others.
Combining archival footage with contemporary clips and interviews, Corman’s World chronicles how one man created an empire, cultivating undiscovered talent and pushing the boundaries of what independent filmmakers could achieve when working outside the studio system. From Corman’s original genre-defining works such as “The Fast And The Furious”, “The Little Shop Of Horrors” and his classic film adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories, to his distribution of the art house films of Bergman, Kurosawa, Fellini and Truffaut and his continuing work as one of the world’s leading independent film producers, Stapleton’s superb documentary recounts a career that has spanned an astonishing six decades.
Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel (cert. 15) will be available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray from 26th March 2012.
