The Baytown Outlaws
On DVD & Blu-Ray 26 Dec 2012
More potent than a shot of Alabama moonshine, Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and Billy Bob Thornton (Eagle Eye; Bad Santa), star in THE BAYTOWN OUTLAWS, a super-charged, foul-mouthed and very bloody, Tarantino-esque action-comedy, directed and co-written by Barry Battles and co-starring Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries), Daniel Cudmore (The Twilight Saga), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game Of Thrones), Travis Fimmel (The Beast), Clayne Crawford (24), Michael Rapaport (Prison Break) and Zoe Bell (Whip It; Bitch Slap; Death Proof).
Writer-director Barry Battles (along with co-writer Griffin Hood) wears his love of cinema on his sleeve with this violent and breathtakingly-paced road-romp through the Deep South, dishing out references to the likes of Rambo, The Warriors, The Devil’s Rejects, The Terminator and even E.T. as the bullets fly and the body count mounts. Throw in Eva Longoria looking amazing in a vest-top and a pair of Daisy Dukes and a rocking soundtrack that includes the likes of Clutch, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, amongst others, and you have one hugely entertaining ride that is destined for cult status.
SYNOPSIS
Meet the Oodies, a trio of redneck hillbilly brothers whose main source of fun – and only source of employment – is illegally enforcing several unwritten laws on behalf of the local corrupt sheriff. When their latest job goes disastrously wrong and ends in a massacre at the wrong address, the brothers are approached by Celeste, a witness to the mayhem, with a proposal. She’s willing to pay them $25,000 for the safe return of her godson, who has been kidnapped by her ex-husband. What she fails to tell them is that the man in question is a ruthless mobster who believes Celeste is dead, having previously arranged for one of his goons to pump her full of lead.
Unsurprisingly, what should be a simple rescue mission soon turns into a southern fried battle royale of epic proportions as the brothers fall foul of a seemingly endless parade of psychopaths and miscreants who want them dead, ranging from a gang of crazy-ass biker chicks and a pack of ruthless road warriors to Federal agents, crooked cops and some very angry Native Americans.
"A zombie (Haitian Creole: zonbi; North Mbundu: nzumbe) is an animated corpse resurrected by mystical means, such as witchcraft.[1] The term is often figuratively applied to describe a hypnotised person bereft of consciousness and self-awareness, yet ambulant and able to respond to surrounding stimuli. Since the late 19th century, zombies have acquired notable popularity, especially in North American and European folklore."
Now the above description is apparently the true definition of a ZOMBIE but over the years this definition as regards to films, book and TV has changed massively, From the original classic White Zombie where the above description fits nearly 100% to the next years Movie adaptation of World War Z where the zombies seem to run faster than Superman! I have to say that out of all the horror genres and sub genres Zombies are definitely my favourite whether it be the latest big movie release or i see the cover of a new straight to DVD zombie movie i am always intrigued. The trouble is with the event of the great comic book and TV series The Walking Dead it seems to has spawned a ton of really bad Zombie movies with nearly every title now renamed for release featuring either "ZOMBIE"or "...of The Dead" in the title very much the same way that the slasher genre was given a new lease of life with the release of Wes Craven's SCREAM franchise also spawning a ton of slashers, some good, some bad and some damn right ugly!!
Frankenstein's Monster, Jason Vorhees, Michael Myres and Freddie Krueger, now are these Zombies? The debate in the horror community has raged on for years and will continue to do so for years to come no doubt, there are many many for's and against, They are all or have been become resurrected dead corpses at one stage or the other, with Frankenstein's Monster being blasted with Electricity therefore man made thus not actually infected with a plague or a virus so does that count? Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers were all originaly created for one movie intention but all spawned a massive load of franchise movies and within this the filmmakers created various ways of bringing them back to life some great and some down right ludicrous but all make for great movies, so yes to all of the above in the respect that they are resurrected corpse's but as with Frankenstein's Monster no virus, bites, Government experiments or plagues, so Zombie's or not?The Debate goes on......
ZOMBIES, RUN!!! OR RUNNING ZOMBIES???
Now here's a question that gets people going, should Zombies Run?
Zak Snyder with his remake of Dawn of the dead had the idea that fresh reanimated corpses still have the reactions and muscle capabilities of the living therefore having all the same speed and quick reactions of their living counterparts and eventually slowing down overtime to the classic shamblers that we know and love today, unfortunately though the studio apparently wasn't happy with this so he had to stick to runners, Some say that the first running zombies were in 28 days later if in fact they were zombies or just infected(see what i mean about what is a zombie???) but i do remember in the Romero Original Dawn of the Dead the 2 kids that burst through the door do run pretty quick, me personally love both, i love the classic zombies in one of my all time favourite movies Night of the living dead, although these are never refereed to in the film as "zombies" these are your classic shamblers, to me the idea of slow zombies is terrifying, en mass and you are trapped as they are in Night of the living dead what a shit scary scenario, slow paced awaiting death, where as if in Night of the living dead they had all been runners the film would have probably been half as long and not as good, hail to the shambler's!
Runners on the other hand are equally scary but on a different level scary as hell, i mean imagine hearing as we have seen in many a film the low slow drone of hundreds of The Dead then seeing them running up the street towards you or over the brow of a hill, all you could do is run but where the hell would you go? If it were shambler's you would have a fighting chance but with runners you are just a human fox chased down by a pack of zombie hounds just waiting to rip every last part of flesh from your bones, Hail to the runners!!
So with this post i asked "What is a Zombie?" and i really don't know either, some say it truly is the description at the top, some say a Zombie is Romero's creation so i feel the debate will rage on for ever, I do however know that over the last couple of years it is has become saturated and hugely popular, not just in movies as before but in comic books, TV shows and even best selling literature that is to become a movie adaptation in next years World World Z Which is already dividing opinions as whether it will be great or terrible, but all i really know is that i love zombies, from my very 1st viewing of Dawn of the Dead on VHS i was hooked and continue to be, so basically as long as they keep making them rise from the grave(although you don't see that very often now!) i will keep trawling through the countless films, over the past few years and as a life long zombie fan i am pleased to see such stuff as The Walking Dead TV show breaking cable TV viewing records as well as stuff such as great Zombie films such as The Dead and La Horde emerging as well as remastered Blu-Ray releases of some Fulci Classics, so keep on keeping on and be sure to read your Zombie survival guide in case the end of the world is upon us,
Many thanks,
Jonny T.
*******STOP PRESS!!**********
In a bizzare incident whilst i writing this piece i had a phone call that basically went i answered and a voice said "Hi is that Jonny T?" i said yes and "You don't know who this is do you?" is said no and then he replied "It's Ken Foree!" to say i was shocked was an understatement! Basically my good mate Big Man Gav is at a Memorabilia convention at the NEC in the UK where Ken is attending and he managed to get him to give me a call and say hi, what a lovely man!!! He did say at the end of the conversation to make sure i put in this post that i had spoken to him and i am not going to argue, many many many thanks to Ken and Gav for making it happen, what a legend!

Berberian Sound Studio -On DVD & Blu-Ray 31 Dec 2012
Dazzling Argento style and haunting Lynchian atmosphere are combined in Peter Stickland’s brilliantly original and hugely acclaimed homage to 1970s Italian horror.
Writer-director Peter Strickland (Katalin Varga) and stars Toby Jones (The Girl; Snow White And The Huntsman; The Hunger Games; Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Tonia Sotiropoulou (Skyfall) and Cosimo Fusco (Angels And Demons; The Card Player).
Synopsis:
It’s 1976 and timid, Dorking-based sound engineer, Gilderoy, has been transplanted to Italy’s run-down Berberian Sound Studio to work on “The Equestrian Vortex”, the latest low-budget horror movie by notorious exploitation maestro Giancarlo Santini. Gilderoy’s task is a seemingly simple one: to create, record and mix the sounds of bloodcurdling screams, limbs being severed and the insertion of red hot pokers into human orifices, mostly using a variety of everyday household items such as old vegetables and a hammer. But Gilderoy is totally unprepared for the graphically grotesque images on show, the effect they have on him and for the unusual working practices of his employers. As he becomes more deeply involved in his work, the line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred and, very subtly, Gilderoy’s life begins to imitate art in a nightmare scenario from which he may never escape.
Winner of the Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor awards at the 2012 Film 4 Frightfest, Peter Strickland’s disturbing, eerie chiller is a must-see for fans of the work of Dario Argento, Roman Polanski and David Lynch and features a revelatory central performance by Toby Jones and a superb soundtrack by British indie electronic band, Broadcast.
“Seriously weird and seriously good. Toby Jones gives the performance of his career, and Peter Strickland has emerged as a key British film-maker of his generation.” (Five Stars) – Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian.
“Eerie, atmospheric, stylish – no adjectives can transmit the sensational quality of director Peter Strickland’s astonishing avant-garde anti-horror.” (5/5) – Larushka Ivan-Zadeh, Metro.
“Half-satire, half-Lynchian nightmare.” (Four Stars) – Anthony Quinn, The Independent.
“If you love movies, you’ll love this. Painstakingly recreating an era of full-blooded Italian horror, this niche-sounding yet accessible thriller confirms Strickland as a major talent.” (Four Stars) – Jamie Graham, Total Film.
“Lip-smacking cinema… unmissable.” – Robbie Collin, The Telegraph.
“Nightmarish, atmospheric… superb.” – Stephen Carty, Empire.
“One of the films of the year.” – Phillip French, The Observer.
“Rivetingly inventive.” – Jonathan Romney, The Independent.
“Director Barry Levinson deploys found footage to startling new effect, conveying terror of an ecological phenomenon that might easily be real… This is horror for grown-ups.”
5 Stars-The Guardian
The Bay
Opens in UK cinemas 01 Mar 2013
The producers of horror hits “Sinister” and “Insidious” and the award-winning director of “Rain Man” team up to deliver a stark, disturbing and truly nerve-shredding tale of an ecological nightmare.
Academy Award winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man; Sleepers), producers Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity; Sinister; Insidious), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity; Insidious), Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity; Insidious) and rising star Kristen Connolly (The Cabin In The Woods).
SYNOPSIS.
The quaint coastal town of Claridge, Maryland thrives on the safe, tranquil and abundant waters of Chesapeake Bay. During their annual Independence Day celebrations, a gruesome plague is unleashed, quickly infecting the residents and turning them against each other. A brutal and harrowing creature feature for the 21st century, “The Bay” graphically chronicles the descent of a small town into absolute terror.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, you find out you can’t even drink it! Veteran Hollywood blockbuster director Barry Levinson brings a rare pedigree to the horror genre utilising a variety of footage formats – from mobile phones, TV reports and CCTV to 911 recordings and web cam transmissions – to present a realistic and totally believable shocker. An intelligent and thought-provoking horror movie with enough gore and stomach-churning imagery to satisfy even the most hardened horror fans, “The Bay” could put you off seafood and even drinking water for quite some time after the credits roll.
“A well-crafted eco-horror film. The scares linger long after the credits roll.” – Slashfilm.com. “An unnerving eco-disaster thriller that refreshes the found footage trend with surprising effectiveness.” – The Hollywood Reporter. “Provocative… generates significant dread.” – Indiewire.
“A chilling tale of something nasty mutating in the waters… thrilling and provocative.” Screen Daily. “Exciting and compelling… genuinely scary and effective.” – Twitchfilm. “A real creepfest, joins the suggestive company of eco-terror entries like Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’ and 1979’s ‘Prophecy’… The body count is massive, the gore voluminous.” (Four Stars) –Time Out, New York.

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with some awesome news of the DVD and Blu-Ray release of AMERICAN MARY.
The highly rated new film from the awesome Soska Sisters following up from the greatly received Dead Hooker in a Trunk.
Released on January 13th 2013 it has been hitting the horror circuit all around the world over the last few months with great reviews so me for one is really looking forward to seeing this, I have put all the details below and will update you with any news i find out and a review coming soon,
Jonny T.
American Mary
On DVD & Blu-Ray 21 Jan 2013
The Soska Sisters (aka The Twisted Twins), co-creators of the award winning, cult indie smash hit Dead Hooker In A Trunk make an awe-inspiring return with their second feature AMERICAN MARY, a stylish, sexy, disturbing and darkly comic “body-mod” horror-thriller that many critics are hailing as the best and most genuinely original horror movie of the year.
Co-written and co-directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska (Dead Hooker In A Trunk) and featuring an outstanding, career-best lead performance by Katharine Isabelle (Being Human; Freddie vs. Jason; Ginger Snaps) in the title role, AMERICAN MARY has been wowing audiences at international film festivals (including London’s Film4 Frightfest) throughout 2012 and has already garnered Five Star reviews from Horror-Movies.ca and BoxOfficeBuz.com and Four Star reviews from Fangoria and Dread Central.
A provocative and thought-provoking combination of the horrors of a feminist “Frankenstein” with a fetishist twist and the visceral thrills of the “female revenge” genre, the film boasts a strikingly original script, laced throughout with a wicked sense of humour and a darkly erotic charge, that admirably takes the horror genre in a fresh and new direction. Simultaneously beautiful, repulsive, shocking and endearing, AMERICAN MARY is an unmissable experience that firmly establishes the Soska Sisters as two of the hottest new talents working in cinema today.
SYNOPSIS
Struggling to make financial ends meet while studying to be a surgeon, talented medical student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) finds herself reduced to applying for work at a local strip joint in order to pay off her mounting debts. During her interview, she is unexpectedly called upon to perform some illegal emergency surgery on one of the club’s clients and is instantly rewarded with a significant cash payment.
Word of Mary’s scalpel-work soon reaches one of the club’s dancers, Beatress Johnson (Tristan Risk), who approaches her offering to pay handsomely for some off-the-books, extreme body-modification work on a friend. The ensuing surgery is a huge success and Mary’s skills soon attract the attention of an underground network of high-paying clientele, all looking for someone to administer procedures and body-mod work unavailable through the usual legal channels.
However, the allure of the easy money and the increasingly bizarre work she is commissioned to perform begins to leave a mark on Mary, and when an incident involving the established surgeons she once idolised leaves her traumatised, “Bloody Mary”, as she has come to be known, responds in the only way she knows how.

A documentary film crew follows old-school paranormal investigator, Eddie Brewer, as he becomes involved in two disturbing and baffling cases. A little girl is believed to be possessed by a malevolent entity; and weird and disquieting noises have been heard in the cellar of a rundown Eighteenth Century mansion now used by the local council. Brewer must not only contend with sceptics and rivals in his own field who try to undermine his investigations, but he is dogged by personal guilt over the death of his wife. Facing the greatest challenge of his life, he confronts the source of these paranormal manifestations during an all night vigil at the old house. What begins as a mocking expose of Eddie’s life, becomes a terrifying battle between reason and the paranormal........
Eddie Brewer (Ian Brooker)looks on.
Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my review of The Casebook of Eddie Brewer.
So it was a couple of weeks leading up to Nottingham's MAYHEM horror festival and i was flicking through the booklet when i saw a new British horror film The Casebook of Eddie Brewer, Now this caught my attention mainly because, i love British Cinema, i love a good ghost story and finally over the past few months i have been totally addicted to the great U.S.A TV show Ghost Hunters and the synopsis of the film described it roughly as a documentary team following around a ghost hunter so i thought I'll be there for that.
I quite easily persuaded Emma to come with me as she also has been loving Ghost Hunters so even with her particularly gruelling work schedule that week we got tickets, headed for a pint and then went to see The Casebook of Eddie Brewer and i can safely say i am jolly glad we did.
In attendance on the night were producer Sean Connolly, Director and writer Andrew Spencer and lead actor Eddie Brewer himself Ian Brooker, who were doing a Q&A Session after the screening so i was hoping that it would be good as i got to thinking how awfully embarrassing it would be if it were a dreadful film and everyone left before that started, 1:It was not a dreadful film it was brilliant and 2:Everyone stayed for what was a great and very insightful Q&A session. more of which i will come to later.
The Film is the story of Eddie Brewer played brilliantly by Ian Brooker and tells the story of a old school paranormal investigator troubled by his own ghost's and troubled past stemming from losing his wife in a fire, Eddie is followed around by a camera crew to survey his work and hopefully get the holy grail an actual Ghost on Camera, Eddie is called to the house of Glenda Blakewell and her daughter Lucy and the reports of poltergeist activity which Eddie being Eddie duly obliges and sets up a camera to hopefully record some activity, we find out through the course of the movie that there is indeed a poltergeist within the Blakewell home and Lucy seems to be in more than regular contact with it.
Glenda Blakewell (Bella Hamblin) moving truth
The Girl that plays Lucy (Erin Connolly) plays the role of the child brilliantly with lots of creepy stares into the camera and as in other horror movies the child can get annoying this certainly is not the case with Lucy,From visiting the Blakewell house and seeing Glenda really at the end of the line this seems to trouble Eddie as you can tell he knows that there is a whole lot more to this investigation than meets the eye, we then move on to the main set piece of the film which is set in a derelict 18th century mansion where we see an interview with the caretaker Ray Riddle (Peter Wight) who tells us about his experience's and is clearly very shaken by them as well as reports from others about doors slamming, noises in toilets and ghostly footsteps, this leads Eddie around the mansion with the crew and soon things become very apparent that these people definitely are telling the truth.
Lucy Blakewell (Erin Connolly) smile
I shan't spoil anything but in summing up this movie was a real pleasant surprise and one of my personal highlights of MAYHEM, Ian Brooker who plays Eddie Brewer was superb, He plays the troubled investigator extremely convincingly and as the film progresses you real do fell for his past, his present and indeed his future, the thing that i liked about it mainly that when i first read the synopsis i was thinking it was going to be full of shaky cam which it was not, the sound was brilliant with real creepy noises, the acting from all was top notch, you get great mix of humour and horror and when the horror hits its like a slap in the face after the humour, we also get a great scene on a radio show where he goes head to head with a female sceptic in an very funny scene needless to say she is not so sceptical later on! Also we get a Derek Achora type psychic also played brilliantly by Don Costello (Glen Hill) who when things start kicking off certainly get a whole lot more than he bargained for, I shall say no more but in the Q&A session after there was mention of a possible sequel as there is a few answers i am dying to find out, the way i saw it was the character of Eddie Brewer really reminded me of David Jason's character in Frost and i know it may never happen but it would make a brilliant TV show on BBC4, What ever happened to all those great British horror shows? Who knows but as long as we keep getting great British films like this i for one will be more than happy,Not sure of a DVD release date as yet but will keep my ears open and let you know as soon as i find out, I have stuck below all the links and info you need to keep up with Eddie Brewer and on the subject of the DVD apparently there will hopefully be some extras that include a clip where footsteps can be heard so they have to stop the scene and when they looked in the corridor there was no one there, ooooo spooky!
A totally gripping film from start to finish, British horror at it's finest.
