The Lost Coast Tapes-Bigfoot ahoy!

Good day people,
Jonny T here with a film i have come across whilst scanning the good old interwebs, The Lost Coast Tapes, it appears to be a found footage movie where a Bigfoot Hunter claims to have found a dead corpse of the legendary creature and a group go out to try and prove it as a hoax and as the great tag line on the poster says "It doesn't like being called a hoax" So you know me i am a sucker for all things Bigfoot and love a bit of the good old found footage so i for one am really looking forward to this, I'll keep an eye out and let you know of anymore updates i come across as regards release dates etc, i have stuck a couple of images i have found below as well as the trailer complet with the very similar looking Blair Witch camera shot!!
keep 'um peeled!

Interview With Paco Plaza

Hello People,
Jonny T here with a great interview from REC director Paco Plaza, I was very fortunate to be given the chance to interview Paco so i jumped on it! Director of The REC series of films and i must say they to me are genre changing films, i initially saw REC on it's UK release and was blown away, got to also see REC2 on it's release and dare i say it it was even better than the 1st although i know i am not alone on that and have heard may other people say the same, So Paco will be attending this years Film 4 frightfeast for the UK premier of REC3-GENISIS and from what i have heard so far it is going to be awesome! Within the interview i also asked Paco about other films he directed such as Films to keep you awake and Romasanta:The Werewolf hunt which i also urge you to seek out if you have yet to see them, so i shall stop rambling now and let you read the interview, many thanks again to Paco for taking time out of his busy schedule to give Jonnys Cult films this interview, Take it away Paco!

1-Hello Paco and thank you for taking time for this interview for Jonnys Cult Films and all our readers, I see that you will be in the UK for a screening at Film 4 Frightfest of the greatly anticipated [REC] GENESIS, Is this your first visit to the UK?
Not really. I was at FirghtFest with my second film, ROMASANTA, when it took place at Prince Charles (it’s been a while!) and I really look forward to visiting London once again!
2-[REC] GENESIS doesn't feature as much hand held camcorder action and goes more for the usual film look, how did you come to this decision to change the formula of the last 2 [REC] Movies?
We didn’t want to go the same path we already had. If one thing is particular about the REC films is that we always tried to surprise the audience, to deliver something different from their expectations. I think these days we seldom feel surprised in a theatre; more and more as filmgoer I have the feeling that I go to the theatre to check the film is exactly as I imagined from the amount of information I had before. We wanted to give something fresh, surprising and unexpected; and using this mix of pov and conventional cinematography was a part of that surprise; a REC film that doesn´t look like it.
3-[REC] GENESIS also features quite a lot of dark humour in the style of other great Spanish horror movies such as Accion Mutante and Day of the Beast, have you ever seen these classics and what are your thoughts on them?
My biggest influence has been Alex de la Iglesia; his film EL DÍA DE LA BESTIA changed the panorama in Spain and proved a new generation of directors we could work in the frame of genre being at the same time faithful to our Spanish culture. He really pointed the way, he has made amazing films.
4-I read that all 4 [REC] films were planned from the start with GENESIS being the prequel and APOCALYPSE being the final film, is this true?
Not at all. When it started we were two friends who love horror films and decide to grab a handycam and shoot one; with very little money, without financial risks and with the only goal of having fun in the process. We didn’t know even if it was going to be released. With everything that happened later and the success, doing the sequels was a constant struggle to keep that in mind: just try to have fun.
5-You were a writer on the [REC] remake Quarantine, how do you feel the remake held up to the original?
No, I only have credit as creator of the original, but we were not involved creatively in that film at all. QUARANTINE helped to make REC extremely popular overseas, and put our film under a new light. Being remade gave REC something close to cult status, so I’m very grateful to the producers that decided to do it.

6-Manuela Velasco is listed as an actual TV presenter in Spain, is this true and what was the reaction to her role in your native Spain?
Her job helped the film to feel more real! It was great.
7-In the remake of [REC] Manuela's role is played by the great actress Jennifer Carpenter also known as Deb from the brilliant Dexter, did you get to meet her and what was she like to work with?
I only visited that set once and she wasn’t there. But I loved her on EMILY ROSE! She is an amazing actress.
8-You were also involved in the brilliant Films to Keep You Awake: The Christmas Tale. I have to admit I watch that every year as part of our Christmas viewing! Are there any plans or would you like to do a project like that again?
I’m so happy to hear so!!! It is my favourite among the films I have done. I just love it. I would love to be part of a TV show again, specially in that talented company!

9-Romasanta: The Werewolf Hunt which you also directed is a great take on serial killer Manuel Blanco Rosmanta who claimed he was a real life werewolf and is fascinating subject for a movie, is this a case you were always interested in and wanted to make into a movie?
I’d like to say so…but I found out about him when they gave me the script…He was a fascinating character. I’d like to tell that story again but with a whole different approach.
10-Your next feature is Paris I'll kill You, a fantastic looking anthology with other great directors such as Joe Dante, could you tell us a little bit about your story in Paris I'll Kill You and does it have a release date as yet?
I won’t be a part of that film due to schedule overlaps. It’s a pity!

11-Any final words for your fans in the UK and readers of Jonnys Cult Films?
I hope you enjoy with REC3, it is a wild film and it is not what you expect. See you in London!

[REC] Genesis will be released by eOne on DVD and Blu-ray 3 September 2012

The Woman in Black review by Molly Jennings!

Hello Folks,
Now, you have all read some great post's by Gavin Jennings on here and i was talking with him the other day and he mentioned that his lovely 12 year old daughter Molly had seen her very 1st horror film The Woman in Black and is going to review it for Jonny's Cult Films! So what we have here for you today is a review from Molly and also an insight to her very 1st experience of seeing a horror film, she also asks for some more suggestions so feel free to leave her some or email me up at jonnyscultfilms@gmail.com and i shall gladly pass them on and hopefully she will return with more reviews, so welcome to the crazy world of the horror community Molly and many thanks for the review, Take it away Molly!

The woman in black review by Molly Jennings aged 12.

My dad writes on Johnny T’s blog and grew up watching horror films, I think he intends to make me do so too. His first horror film experience was Salem’s lot and the vampire scared him so much he jumped behind my gran’s sofa! Anyway if it wasn’t for the fact that Daniel Radcliffe was in this, his first major role outside of the Harry Potter franchise, I probably would have not watched it. However, since all things Potter are generally awesome I was prepared to see it, even if it was from under a blanket!
The story starts in the Victorian era with three girls playing with their porcelain dolls. Suddenly they get up and go to a big three paned window and jump out of it. I thought this was unusual as young children rarely get killed in films. If they were prepared to murder kids what else would the story do? Arthur Kipps is a widowed lawyer who is forced to leave his son Joseph to go and sort out the paperwork at Eel Marsh, a big house belonging to a recently dead widow. When Arthur first arrives at the town none of the residents wants him to go to the estate which they believe to be haunted by a ghostly woman in black. Despite this he works at the house and begins to experience strange goings on like doors that lock and unlock themselves and moving shadows. At first things are subtle but quickly gain momentum leading to some genuinely scary moments.
My favourite scenes were shot at Eel marsh. The first glimpse of the house gave me the chills let alone the chills inside of it. The scenes shot inside were brilliant, I liked how they put false surprises eg: pigeons flying into the screen, nests falling down chimneys etc. The bits that scared me most were the parts when the rocking chair was swinging wildly and then you see how the woman in black died. What also scared me was the part with the hand print on the window when Arthur puts his hand on it and you see the woman before she died do an ear piecing scream and rush forward at the window. I don’t like the bits with the children’s deaths, especially the one in the police station which was awful.
On the whole I really enjoyed watching my first horror film. It even made me want to read Susan Hill’s novel on which this is based. Although it was scary it was a lot of fun not knowing if I was going to jump or not. I can see why people like watching this genre. I am not ready to watch some of the junk that my dad likes but I will definitely watch a similar film. Can you offer me any suggestions?
A bit of news for fans, it was announced on 2 April 2012 that there would most likely be a sequel entitled ‘Woman in Black: Angels of death’ released later in 2012 or 2013. It is supposed to be set during World War 2 with lots of injured soldiers sent to reside at Eel Marsh house to be looked after by a nurse, the latest resident haunted by the woman in black.

Paranormal Activity 4 new trailer released.

Hello Folks,
Well just released this morning is the trailer for the upcoming Paranormal Activity 4! To be honest i wasn't that much a fan of the 1st movie but did really enjoy the 2nd one, the 3rd one was OK but the ending ruined a bit for me, with number 4 though it looks like they are going for the direct sequel route from no2, confused? ha! Anyway i have persuaded Emma to go with me yet again to the cinema in October (on the basis that i will pay!) so i will let you know my thoughts when i finally get to see it. I do wonder if all the scenes we see in this trailer will actually be in the film as when no3 came out the cinema release was missing a ton of stuff that was in the trailer, only time will tell,
Enjoy,
Jonny T.

The Pact Coming to DVD and Blu Ray!

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with news of the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the super scary looking The Pack. Released on DVD and Blu-Ray on 1st October it has seen some great reviews and i for one am really looking forward to this one, all the details below and look out for a review coming soon!
Jonny T.

The Pact
On DVD & Blu-Ray 01 Oct 2012

“The scariest film this year.”
LoveFilm.

The break-out horror movie smash of the year that has been electrifying hardened genre fans and non-horror fans alike, “The Pact” combines the supernatural terrors of “Paranormal Activity” with the tense atmospherics of a serial killer thriller to create a unique, modern-day take on the classic ghost story.

First-time feature director Nicholas McCarthy, sexy up-and-coming female lead Caity Lotz (Death Valley; Mad Men), Casper Van Dien (Sleepy Hollow; Starship Troopers), Agnes Bruckner (Kill Theory; Vacancy 2: The First Cut; Blood And Chocolate), Haley Hudson (Killer By Nature; Freaky Friday) and Kathleen Rose Perkins (Episodes).

Synopsis:
Following the death of her mother, Annie receives a phone call from her former drug addict sister, Nicole, imploring her to come back to visit their family home and to attend their mother’s funeral. Still tortured by memories of a troubled childhood, Annie is reluctant to revisit the past, but eventually agrees to Nicole’s request. However, on arrival at the house she finds no trace of her sister and, when Nicole fails to turn up at the funeral, Annie simply assumes she has relapsed into drug use as a way of dealing with her loss. Not wishing to spend the night alone in her mother’s house, Annie invites her cousin, Liz, and Nicole’s estranged young daughter to stay over.

But it’s not long before Annie begins to sense another, unseen presence in their midst. Household
objects are inexplicably moved around, strange noise are heard during the night and a broken
picture frame reveals a photo of a sinister figure. Then all hell breaks loose. Annie finds herself
physically threatened by this malign supernatural force residing within the house and, following a
particularly terrifying assault, discovers that Liz, too, has disappeared. With her life now seriously
at risk, and time running out, Annie is forced to confront her worst fears and solve the mystery
surrounding her family’s history before it is too late.

When it comes to real scares, you can’t beat a really good ghost story and this one ranks right up there with the best of them. Very much in the tradition of “Insidious”, “Stir Of Echoes”, “The Entity” and “The Haunting”, this is a highly atmospheric and genuinely frightening supernatural shocker that had us completely on edge throughout, elicited screams and built to a climax that had us peering through our fingers. It also features a stand-out lead performance by Caity Lotz as Annie, a strong and sexy biker chick who really isn’t one to be messed with.
