Starring Silje Reinamo, Erlend Nervold and Jon Sigve Skard Thale" is based on a mythical character in Nordic folklore called the "huldra". It is said that it seduces men that work in the woods by humming a beautiful song, and they never return to their village. Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my review of Nordic Horror "THALE".
The Story starts out with our 2 main characters Elvis and Leo who work for a cleaning company but it's not your normal cleaning company it's one that cleans up the dead! The main guy Leo enlists the help of his good friend Elvis but it's clear from the outset that it's not his favourite choice of job as the first 5 minutes and throughout the film all he does is puke and with Leo describing how the current job they are working on involves scraping an old lady off the floor i can't say i blame him!
With that job finished they move on to the next,This is where we stay with things throughout the remainder of the movie, Upon arrival it seem like just a normal run of the mill clean up the dead type of job but when Elvis discovers a door in the basement that leads into what seems like some kind of lab things take a very different twist,The room contains such things as a fridge, a tape recorder, various medical implements and a bath with pipes going into it and it is filled with a milky like substance, Leo goes to get dinner from the van and tells Elvis not to touch anything but Elvis being Mr Curious decides to start playing the tape, we hear various things said that seem to be from the deceased old man then the noise of what sound like an animal screeching when all of a sudden a naked girls leaps up from the bath with a pipe attached to her mouth, to say Elvis is shocked is an understatement!

So Leo arrives back to see Elvis and the naked girl, now it has to be said that Leo is a great character in the respect that he shows no emotion whatsoever in any situation, so by the time the girl is on her countless out of date tin of food and about 18th cob Leo says he has rung the authorities and they are on the way, Elvis then wanders off as the girl seems to have disappeared only to find a small makeshift bedroom with the girl hiding under the bed, she reaches out and touches him resulting in visions in his mind of her upbringing and even more intriguing her discovery. She is found in a small cave as a baby by the mysterious old man and taken back to his home, where in it transpires that as she is being brought up by a Human she manages to take on a human form and not one of her own, the film then goes on to show the true creatures in brief glimpses that run here and there throughout the forest and they look great!Apparently the story is loosely based on true Nordic folklore which i for one after seeing this i Wonder if there are many more because the subject matter makes this a great film and it would be great to see some more of the tales brought to the screen.
So, in summing up Thale in my opinion is a great movie, the performances and atmosphere is superb,It looks great, the setting of the remote cabin in the extremely picturesque setting adds a ton of great scenes, done on a low budget but as i said the settings add a true feel of grandeur, all in all a great addition to the every growing great catalogue of Nordic Cinema.
8/10

Fred Of The Dead for Comic Relief!

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here just doing my bit for Charity! Now you may find this a little odd, with me saying the word "Charity" and a picture of Shaun of the Dead above but this is how this post came about........
I received a notification this morning on Twitter that i had been sent a message by my great buddy Gav The Big man, the Tweet included a photo of his young son Fred and what he was dressing up as for school as part of Comic Relief Red Nose Day, Now knowing Gav very well i knew this would be cool as i have seen Fred before dressed up by Gav as one of the Ghostbusters! So for today's Red Nose Day he is dressed as non other than Shaun(Simon Pegg) from the classic Shaun Of The Dead! As i said it was put out on twitter and pretty much immediately Nick Frost replied saying "Don't take that axe to school!" and so Gav challenged Simon Pegg that if he re tweeted the picture Gav would give a further £10 to Comic Relief and he Did! So many thanks to both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the help and Re tweets and Fred you look great!
So if you are feeling generous please click the link below to do your bit for the great Comic Relief and also i have included a link to the video archive which contain some hilarious one off clips filmed especially for Comic Relief,
Many thanks,
Jonny T.

FRED OF THE DEAD!

Supernatural: The Anime Series - On DVD 27 May 2013

The first-ever live-action television series to be re-imagined as an anime series, “Supernatural: The Anime Series” brings a whole new dimension to the internationally acclaimed hit TV phenomenon.

Creator Eric Kripke (Revolution; Supernatural; Boogeyman), voice actors Jared Padalecki (Supernatural; Friday The 13th; House Of Wax) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural; My Bloody Valentine; Smallville), co-directors Atsuko Ishizuka (Aoi Bungaku; Top Secret – The Revelation; NANA; MONSTER) and Shigeyuki Miya (Lupin III; Blade; Bleach; High School Of The Dead), and production studio Madhouse (Ninja Scroll; Paprika; Summer Wars; The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; Death Note).

Synopsis:

Having lost their mother, Mary, under mysterious paranormal circumstances at an early age, young Sam and Dean Winchester are raised by their father, who, driven by revenge, becomes an obsessive hunter and destroyer of supernatural creatures and entities. Years later, when their father mysteriously disappears and Sam’s girlfriend is killed in similar circumstances as their mother, the Winchester brothers follow in their father’s footsteps, travelling the back-roads, highways and byways of America in search of answers and vengeance. It is a journey that brings them face-to-face with unimaginable horrors, from demons and vampires to ghosts and shape-shifters, unites them with loyal allies and reveals their eventual and totally unexpected destinies.

Made with the blessing and creative input of the original show’s creator, Eric Kripke, and featuring the vocal talents of the live-action series stars, this animated series brilliantly covers the events of the first two seasons of “Supernatural” by recreating many of the original episodes while also introducing a whole batch of brand new material that explores the Winchesters’ previously unseen childhoods and expanding upon the stories of several secondary characters. The trump card, however, is the anime’s ability to go further, visually, than any live-action TV show could ever dream of going. The result makes for essential viewing for committed “Supernatural” fans and provides an ideal primer and introduction for those yet to become possessed by the haunting and action-packed saga of the Winchesters.

“Cool and unexpected… For creativity, you can’t get more eye-popping than some of the visions these Japanese animators have cooked up.” – DVDVerdict.com.

“Impressively sleek and efficient… the scale of the visuals is a lot more ambitious than anything live-action network TV could ever hope to match.” – DVDTalk.com.

“Highly recommended. Don’t waste a minute—get your hands on this must-have set! If you haven’t watched a single episode of ‘Supernatural’, this is a perfect opportunity for new viewers to jump in.” – Fangoria.

“Supernatural: The Anime Series does not disappoint. With creator Eric Kripke’s blessing, the episodes based on existing episodes are cleverly re-imagined and enhanced, the freedom of animation allowing the storytellers to go where a live-action show with financial and physical – i.e. human – limitations can’t.” – HorrorNews.net.

“The original stories offer fans of the show new adventures, leaving you wishing they could be adapted for real.” – HorrorNews.net.

“Stands out from a lot of the other anime being produced recently.” – Anime News Network.

“An accomplished head-hunter risks everything to obtain a valuable painting owned by a former mercenary.”

Hello Folks,

Jonny T here with my review of Jo Nesbo’s Head-hunter’s, Now I had seen the poster around for this and thought it looked a bit shit to be honest so never bothered with it until a friend of mine said he had watched it and how good it actually was, so I was passing a Blockbuster that is closing down and decided of course to nip in and see what bargains I could get, and there on the shelf for £3 was Head-hunter’s so I snatched it up.
It tells the basic story of an art thief that poses as a corporate head-hunter to see if he can find out a little about his future employees (who never have a chance of a real job) and most importantly see what the know about art but even more important than that if they actually own any valuable and in his mind art he can steal and sell, This is set up in a great scene near the beginning of the movie where we see him conducting an interview in a very relaxed manner and asking questions such as “Are you married? Do you have children? Are they in school? Does your wife also work? Do you have a dog?” Now all the questions relate of course to the vacancy of the house during the daytime and more importantly the “do you have a dog?” question so he doesn’t get attacked, this question in particular leads to a great scene later in the movie of which I won’t spoil, The guy answers yes to all the questions then goes on to tell him that what he knows about art and he owns a very valuable painting himself, mistake!

The Man then tells him he has no chance of getting the job, obviously he looks shocked but again it is only a ploy, he tells him to return the next day at 12 o’clock to meet the director therefore having all the details and knowing he will be out the art theft is on, we then see how he pulls it off with the help of a security expert who can gain access remotely to peoples alarm systems and deactivate them at will, we then see him pulling off the theft by reproducing the exact painting in the form of a large exact replica photocopy, Breaking into the house, cutting out the painting and replacing it with the copy, job done!

The main man in question is Roger Brown played brilliantly by Aksel Hennie , At first you see him and his wife living the multi-millionaire lifestyle with his wife oblivious to what he really does for a living and her constantly wanting to start a family, life’s all good, that is until he picks on the wrong guy Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Clas Greve ) , from this moment forward the film twists and turns quicker and more times than a giant python chasing a pygmy!

So without revealing too much, All is not as perfect as it seems and it seems as with all criminals they have gotten away with it for so long that it’s bound to catch them up, the story takes on the basic premise then of the art thief being hunted down by the guy that wants to kill him and this man is one mean motherfucker as he discovers when he looks into his background and his mercenary secret service tracking device company, one tiny spoiler, the guy somehow manages to track him for a hell of a lot of the time and you are constantly wondering how the hell he is doing it and the reveal is brilliant, now on to the dog, the guy who is chasing him as one big ugly scary dog so he gets chased from cabin to cabin with the dog sniffing him out at every turn, this leads to a scene where he is in the toilet cabin, now I won’t say what happens apart from “HOLY SHIT!!” and by that I mean litteraly, it’s one hell of a stomach churning gross scene almost so bad you can smell it, it really does have to be seen to be believed.

So in Summing up, if you fancy a change from Horror you can’t really do much better than this, it does have its’ violent bits, gross bits, extremely clever twists and turns that keeps you guessing right up to the very last frame, Just under 90 minutes long and so many great scenes it never drags for a moment.
Go check it out!
