The Pact-DVD Review By Jonny T.

THE PACT
2012
Directed by- Nicholas mcCarthy
Starring- Caity Lotz, Casper Van Dien and Mark Steiger

"As a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home."

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my DVD review of the 2012 movie The Pact. The film opens with a young single mother taking care of her recently deceased mum's funeral and home, She talks to her sister about if she will attend the funeral but without much luck as it appears the recently dead mum was not a pleasant person at all, so after speaking ill of the dead (never a good idea in a horror movie!) She decides to have a chat with her daughter via Skype, at 1st the conversation goes well until she starts to lose the signal to her daughter, the here's a noise coming from the closet then BOOM it all kicks off, we sir her smashed all over the place then dragged into said closet!

We then get to see the arrival of her bad girl sister who has been trying to call back, on arrival at her dead mums house she enters and notices that the door is unlocked and her mobile is on the floor and the laptop still switched on with messages of her daughter on screen, Unsure of her sisters whereabouts she doesn't seemed too phased and does decide to attend her mums funeral, on returning to the house it all start kicking of big time!

She also gets the full force of the evil spirit and decides to leave immediately and spend the night in a local hotel where in a great scary scene she is again attacked by the ghost, This then brings her into contact with a local police officer,mr big chin himself Casper Van dien, Now personally i think it's great seeing him again as in the last few years many of his performances have been straight the DVD which i feel is a shame as in this kind of role as in Starship Troopers he ideally cast and could easily be seen as a great cult actor, anyway back to The Pact, He agrees to go back to the house with her and they discover behind a wall a secret room, oooo spooky!

We then in a rather bizarre scene see her go visit a local girl who seems quite disturbed and judging by the house and people living in the house I'm not 1 bit surprised! It turns out that the girl is Psychic and under duress agrees with her horrible brother to come to the house and see what she can pick up, This is a great scene where the creepy looking girl really does start to pick everything up evil within the house resulting in her being thrown across the floor and....i won't spoil it! The girl and her brother flee only for the girl to contact her again where she tells her the way to find out whats happening is to use a Ouija Board (another bad idea for a horror film!)

So although it sounds like i may have told you quite a lot about The Pact there is a hell of a lot more to it than all of the above, It's part Mystery, part Ghost story, kind of i would say in the vane of something like George C Scott classic The Changeling, There are lots of twists and turns throughout, the scares come thick and fast, there is gore, jump scares and great FX as well as great acting and some cool camera angles, so on these cold winter nights you could do a hell of a lot worse that The Pact, In my opinion it's been so far a pretty poor and slow year for horror but The Pact does stand above a hell of a lot of films i have seen so far this year, A recommend from me!

8/10

  1. Thanks for posting on The Pact, Jonny. I am having a few of my coworkers from DISH over for a little scary movie marathon on Saturday. We are all bringing a movie, and thanks to your review, I decided on The Pact. I just added it to the top of my DISH Blockbuster @Home rental queue and I should have it in time for movie night. I love a good supernatural flick, and it sounds like this one is especially creepy; I think this will be a good pick.
