Jonny T here with a new feature called " Have a film on me Friday!" TWISTED TALES OF MADNESS AND MURDER, THE RESOLUTION,INVESTMENT, REVIEWED BY JONNY T.
Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my review of Twisted tales of Madness and Murder, The Resolution.
I was skipping through Facebook one day when I came across a great looking comic and the guy who wrote it Rick Tobin, now I liked the look of this as it reminded me of the good old days of comic books. Tales From the crypt etc. so I contacted Rick and he very kindly sent me the first issue and needless to say I was not disappointed.
The 1st tale The Resolution tells of a new year’s eve where a party is in full swing when our main Character John tells his friend that he is secretly planning on proposing to his girlfriend that very night, his friend seems to think that this is a real bad idea and tries his best to get him to forget the whole thing, but love-struck John is having none of it so decides to ask her, she flatly refuses and to the shock of poor old John he then finds out that the reason is that she is sleeping with the very friend that told him not to! Now that is only the first twist in a very twisted tale, We then see a dishevelled john a year later going through a supermarket checkout and being hit on by the lady who is serving him, in his state he kindly just brushes it off and goes home, when he arrives home he opens the boot for us to see his girlfriend that rejected him tied up in the boot, she is duly taken down into his basement where some real gruesome torture takes place, one note that the artwork particularly in this section by Tadd Galusha is superb, So mid torture he hears the doorbell go upstairs, he wearily goes upstairs and looks through the peephole only to see the girl from the supermarket , She has in her hand a bottle of wine, wishes him Happy New Year and duly explains to him her feelings and asks to come in which he obviously does not want her to, Disgruntled she then tells him that she needs to use the phone as her cell phone has died and she needs to call a cab, so he gives in and invites her in, She notices blood on his hands and asked what happened and says “You’re not some kind of psycho are you?” oh if only she knew! They then hear a massive crash in the basement and she asks what it is……….
I shall say no more as not to spoil it for you all, But later on we get introduced to the one and only hard ass Detective Spurlock he introduced whilst sniffing cocaine of a hooker ass, yes you heard that right, he arrives to witness a gruesome seen and comments how he promised that he would try and not got hard when he sees female corpses! So you get the gist of Spurlock, Hard ass, Takes no shit kind of guy!
The 2nd tale Investment opens up with a guy Trevor the cool kid of college and his geeky friend Joe, Trevor is obviously good friends with Joe but is seemingly annoyed at the fact that he always has his head in a book and he should get a girl and should have his head in other places (Sorry about that I went a bit “Spurlock!)We then get to meet his latest lady a hot cheerleader who runs up and embraces him much to the annoyance of her ex meathead boyfriend Brad who is held back from smashing his face in by his buddies, she tells Trevor that her parents are away for the weekend and to come around later for some sexy time, and asks her to bring one of her cheerleader friends, she then asks why and he looks at Joe and she says she would have to be very drunk, poor Joe. She shakes her ass and walks off leaving us set up for the next instalment.
The Comic is brilliantly written with more twists than a Vegas rollercoaster, The first issue as I have mentioned features Detective Spurlock, Trevor and Joe and greatly written characters that get you hooked from the get go and I personally cannot wait to see where the stories lead ,I have spoken to Rick and the hope to release Bi-Monthly and I hope they do! The twists are great, the artwork is superb and as I have said it really reminded me of classic comics such as Tales from the crypt, I also think with the resurgence over the past year or so of the Anthology style movies these would fit in perfectly on the big screen, So all in all a great read, Go grab yourself a copy now and get Twisted!
A solid 9/10

METRODOME DISTRIBUTION ANNOUNCES 1st JULY 2013 HOME ENTERTAINMENT RELEASE DATE FOR MANIAC
‘Moody….Noir-ish…Cool’ EMPIRE **** ‘Absolutely sensational – a masterclass’ AINT IT COOL STARRING ELIJAH WOOD
We warned you not to go out tonight. Just when the downtown Los Angeles streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new photo exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill. From producers/writers Alexander Aja and Gregory Levasseur (SWITCHBLADE ROMANCE, THE HILLS HAVE EYES, MIRRORS, PIRANHA) and director Franck Khalfoun (P2) MANIAC is a stylized and technical triumph, with a nerve-shredding Argento tribute score. – the entire movie is shot from the killer’s point-of-view.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Official Midnight Screening selection.
So what we have here with Dead Mine is a group of travellers, English man, American, Ladies and local experts all out on an expedition exploring old mines, but when they come under attack from a group of local militia they take shelter in a “Dead Mine” only to have a hand grenade thrown at them threw the entrance exploding then sealing the entrance with no possible means of escape, The only option they have Is then to go deeper in to the mine to look for a possible escape route.
But things take a turn when the American chap reveals to the others that they are in fact there to find the lost city of gold that is said to be buried within the mine and it also transpires that he is not alone with this knowledge as a few others in the group also know of this plan much to the annoyance of the pretty stereotypical English cockney ex-soldier man, Well at the end of the day there is not a great deal they can do about it now as there is no way out except to find one.
So the venture forth deeper and deeper in to the mine only to discover what at first sight appears to be a disused Japanese army bunker from world war II, They come across a rickety bridge where on the other side is a Japanese flag and half way across lights come on and Japanese propaganda music starts playing, they stop for a while in surprise and eventually the music stops, So not being put off and still on the search for a way out they venture onwards as all good explorers would. Arriving in the main bunker part they come across all manner of paraphernalia including some old photographs depicting severely skinny Japanese prisoners then it is revealed by one of the travellers that she knows that this used to be an experiment camp on humans, bad times ahead!
When the hand grenade was thrown into the bunker one of their soldier guides/protectors had his leg crushed by a rock and was duly dragged out so of course they brought him with them and find him an old hospital type bed to lay on for a while, not before snapping his bone back into place of course, the others start wondering around and come across a room with what appears to be some kind of Japanese soldier in it and he is still alive and duly attacks the two explorers before being overpowered and disarmed, they remove his mask to reveal a very wrinkly old Japanese soldier that has been down there since the war ended but believes the war is still on going until convinced by the lady that it is over, during this time we see the injured guide on a bed when all of a sudden the sand beneath him starts slowly to sing down, We then get to see him dragged into the ground and disappear along a hidden tunnel, one of the other guides peers down the whole only to see what appears to look like a skinny version of Bane from Batman! Chase on.
One by one the descend down the hole on the lookout for the man that dragged down, we eventually see that this skinny Bane was not the only one down there, far from it, there are loads of them, Now I have to say this for me is where the film finally took off, it seemed a long time getting there, I won’t spoil it but there is a lot more badness than skinny Bane’s down there, it flows along at a nice pace from there on in with some effective gore and shock and pretty decent make up effects, Don’t get me wrong it’s not the greatest horror movie you will ever see but it hit all the right buttons, it was a kind of mash up of the likes of The Descent, The Ruins and other such movies and to me it was a refreshing change from yet another god damn “Of the Dead” awful cash in Zombie flick and not another Paranormal caught on tape/found footage shake the hell out of the camera malarkey!
“A terrifying, suspense filled action horror that brings the modern world face to face with unknown terrors of World War II.”
Dead Mine
On DVD Monday 13th May 2013
From “Mum & Dad” writer/director Steven Sheil comes this dark claustrophobic action-horror arriving on DVD. Fans of “Outpost” and “The Descent” won’t be disappointed.
Stars; Sam Hazeldine (The Raven; Don’t Let Him In), Joe Taslim (The Raid; Fast & Furious 6), Miki Mizuno (Guilty of Romance; Kill), Ario Bayu (Macabre; Java Heat) and director Steven Sheil (Mum & Dad).
Synopsis:
A group of treasure hunters set off to a remote Indonesian island searching for wartime gold. Beset by in-fighting, things go from bad to worse when they are suddenly attacked by a mysterious enemy.
Taking refuge in an old Japanese WWII mine it quickly comes apparent that the groups treasure hunt has turned into something far more sinister, when they discover the area was used for secret medical research on P.O.W’s
When bizarre occurrences start to happen in the bunker it is revealed that the explorers are not alone and something far more deadly awaits them…
It is great to see the return of Joe Taslim (The Raid) and Sam Hazeldine (The Raven) leading a film stuffed with action, great scares, visual effects and impressive make-up.
With an intriguing combination of human experiments gone awry, enclosed spaces and the real effects of war on soldiers and civilians, this suspense filled action-horror will keep you guessing to the very end.

Hello Folks,
Jonny T here with my review of the just released Do Elephants Pray?
Do Elephants Pray? Tells the story of Callum Cutter (Jonnie Hurn) who runs a failing firm with employees that seem non too bothered at the demise of the company, He is a dreamer and constantly dreams of anywhere better than where he is on a day to day basis.
The film opens up with a scene of a beautiful autumnal forest full of wildlife when all of a sudden we see him running through the woods naked where he then stumbles upon himself practicing Tai Chi by the side of a lake, we then see him slowly awaken and in his Weekly Tai Chi class which seems his only solace in his grey drab world.
At his Tai Chi class he meets French girl Milika(Julie Dray) who seems the complete opposite of Callum, Free spirited, Ambitious and not a care in the world, Basically everything he wants to be and to escape his corporate chains, This leads to them going to a local part where they lay on a roundabout whilst talking about ambition, she asks him a question and he replies she the disappears and leaves him an answer on a piece of paper that solely says “Wrong Answer” he returns to his grim block of flats and throws the paper away only to retrieve it seconds later and the realisation hit’s him that she is what he wants and needs to be and must see her again. He then acquires the book “Everything you know is wrong” and it’s the final piece of his escapism in his mind, he now know what he really wants from life.
The film carries on with daily routine but he becomes more and more distant as well as meeting up with Malika one day he decides enough is enough and they take off on a trip, upon this trip she shows him the true meaning of the world and what it is he can escape from and become.
All in all a great little film, full of pondering questions which make you think of what it is really all about, expertly shot with some great visuals and performances especially from his employee Marrlen (Marc Warren) who is annoying as hell and I’m sure every workplace has one of these people!
Well worth a look, a slow burning mind provoking movie and I for one will be keeping an eye out for more of Director’s Paul Hills Movies.

Synopsis:Malcolm and Sofia, two determined teens from the Bronx, are the ultimate graffiti partners. When a rival gang buffs their latest masterpiece, they must hatch a plan to get revenge by tagging an iconic NYC landmark, but they need to raise $500 to pull off their spectacular scheme. Over the course of two whirlwind, sun-soaked summer days, Malcolm and Sofia travel on an epic urban adventure involving black market spray cans, illicit bodega, stolen sneakers, a high stakes heist, and a beautiful, stoned girl whose necklace is literally their key to becoming the biggest writers in the city.Director’s Bio Adam Leon was born and raised in NYC. Since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania he has worked extensively in the New York film industry. Along with independently directing hi sown short films and music videos, he worked in association with the All Rites Reserved and Rough Cut production companies in various positions including writer, director, production coordinator etc, on film and video projects ranging from advertisements for companies including Nike, to award winning shorts, and several music videos.Adam apprenticed for Woody Allen on set and in post-production for two years. Additionally,he has held positions at the Tribeca Film Festival as a Filmmaker Coordinator at the New York Film Festival, where as Production Manager he coordinated the Festival and supervised other special events, and The Jacob Burns Film Center, where he serves as a programmer, selecting films and creating series in addition to booking high level guests.Under the alias Skinny Slim, he was a founder of the Badminton Stamps collective, whose members continue to thrive in the fine art, photography, film and music fields, and are best known for their “Found Your Stuff” street art project. His most recent short, Killer, premiered at The Museum of Modern Art and Lincoln Centre as part of their New Directors/New Films festival. It went on to play at over twenty festivals around the world, including in San Francisco, London, Woodstock, Los Angeles, and Nantucket, where, along with the Oscar winning feature The Hurt Locker and Oscar winning documentary The Cove, it won the award for outstanding film.Gimme the Loot will be Adam’s debut feature film.
Director's Statement:The movie takes place over two hot summer days and follows Malcolm and Sofia on an adventure through New York involving a range of diverse characters from many walks of life. This is a story about a time and place, and capturing New York was key to the project. We took to the streets, used real locations in the Bronx and all over the city, often shot guerrilla style, and just hustled and schemed like our characters to get it made in the best way possible.Tonally, I was focused on taking these kids who often have rough lives, but telling a story set in that world that is more about the joys of youth rather than the perils of it. While Malcolm and Sofia dabble in juvenile delinquency and often have it hard, that doesn't mean they're bad or miserable people. I hope ultimately that portrayal helps humanise our characters and make them universally identifiable. I was inspired by a great, charming movie from the Fifties called Little Fugitive that was shot on the streets of NYC using non-professional kids, and I also looked at the Sidney Poitier/Bill Cosby comedies from the seventies like Uptown Saturday Night, and even the Bob Hope/Bing Crosby road movies. While those last two examples are broader intone, and GIMME THE LOOT is set in a very authentic, and at times gritty world, I wanted the spirit of those movies to be present in our film. The production concept was to have a full, detailed script and intensive preparation, including months of rehearsal, but then going out and shooting very fast, very on the fly. That combination, hopefully, led us to have a strong, structured story with real, full characters but also a sense of looseness and freshness. We woke up every morning knowing that things were not going to go as planned and because of our preparation , and our focused, supportive crew, we were able to embrace whatever the City threw at us and incorporate it into the movie.Above all else we needed to find amazing talent to pull this off. I put a sign up on my door that read “Find kids. Shoot movie” because I knew that once we had the cast everything else would fall into place. If the actors were special enough then people would recognise it and want to be a part of the project. Luckily we were able to discover a cast that I believe is a truly remarkable and I am most thankful for and proud of these wonderful young actors we were able to spotlight in the movie.

Synopsis
Takashi Miike, the director of '13 Assassins', 'Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai' and 'Audition' brings us as Bollywood-style musical action/comedy/love story!
Not exactly a director that plays along with genre rules, the prolific Takashi Miike now takes his talent in genre bending to the pure romance world with For Love's Sake (a.k.a. Ai to Makoto), based on Kajiwara Ikki's 1973 manga series. An epic story of a rich high school girl who falls in love with a tough young gangster, Miike's take on the story breaks all the rules with musical numbers (with music by popular music producer Kobayashi Takeshi), tongue-in-cheek humour, and in-your-face violence. Starring Satoshi Tsumabuki (Villain) and Emi Takei (Rurouni Kenshin) as the star-crossed lovers, For Love's Sake is a unique and incredibly wild ride that will change your definition of what a pure romance can be.
DIRECTOR - TAKASHI MIIKE
Takashi Miike draws on his prolific directing experience to create a vivid, generation-spanning love story filled with emotional pain, humour, violence and tenderness. Soliciting unforgettable performances from his talented cast, Miike imbues For Love's Sake with an indomitable spirit.
Born in 1960 in Osaka, Miike graduated from film school in Yokohama. He apprenticed under directors Shohei Imamura and Hideo Onchi before making his directorial debut in 1991. Miike quickly became one of Japan's busiest film makers, directing over 80 works across all genres. His unmatched energy, skill and in some cases boundary-pushing explicitness in adapting the various source material behind his films became his signature. In recent years his work has gained a high international profile, with "Thirteen Assassins" screening as world premiere in Venice in 2010 and "Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai" as the first 3D film to compete for the Palme d'Or in Cannes. Among his other films are "One Missed Call," "Zebraman" ('04), "The Great Yokai War" ('05), "Like a Dragon" ('07), "Crows Zero" series ('07, '09), "Sukiyaki Western Django" ('07), "Yatterman" ('09), "Ninja Kids!!!" ('11), "Ace Attorney" ('12). His most recent film "Lesson of the Evil" is released in November 2012.
"MAKOTO" - SATOSHI TSUMABUKI
Versatile actor Satoshi Tsumabuki is a rare example of an actor comfortable and successful in both mainstream entertainment and challenging roles. As Makoto in For Love's Sake he effortlessly expresses inner emotional turmoil, cocksure attitude, latent sensitivity and convincing physical power in the film's furious fight scenes.
Born in 1980 in Fukuoka, Satoshi Tsumabuki made his acting debut in 1998. His first lead role was in 2001 hit "Waterboys," which won him the best newcomer award at the 25th Japan Academy Awards. "AI " – EMI TAKEI
18-year-old Emi Takei makes a huge impression in For Love's Sake – her first major feature film role. In the role of Ai, Takei personifies the innocent, unconditional love of the massive "jun'ai" ("pure love") sub-genre wholly inspired by Ikki Kajiwara and Takumi Nagayasu's original manga.
Born in 1993 in Aichi Prefecture, Emi Takei first gained notice after winning two prizes at the 11th Japan Bishojo national beauty contest. She soon began appearing in popular TV dramas on the major networks including "Liar Game Season 2". Multi-talented Takei recorded her first single in 2011, with her singing ability strongly evident in For Love's Sake. Currently one of the most in-demand young actresses in Japan, Takei has upcoming lead roles in "Kyo, Koi wo Hajimemasu" and Warner Brothers samurai action epic "Rurouni Kenshin," released in August 2012.
Other members of the impressive ensemble supporting cast include Takumi Saitoh as Ai's fiercely loyal suitor and classmate Hiroshi, "Letters from Iwo Jima" star Tsuyoshi Ihara as Hanazono High boss Gonta, Sakura Ando as gum-chewing female gang member Gumko, 16-year-old Ito Ono as enigmatic queen of Hanazono High Yuki, Masachika Ichimura as Ai's father and "Departures" star Yo Kimiko as Makoto's wayward mother.
An impressive creative team was assembled to realize For Love's Sake's ambitiously cinematic and musical world. Crafting the memorable story and striking visuals are screenwriter Takayuki Takuma ("Boys Over Flowers the movie"), cinematographer Nobuyasu Kita ("Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai," "Thirteen Assassins") and production designer Yuji Hayashida ("Thirteen Assassins," "Goemon"). Overseeing the diverse soundtrack is Takeshi Kobayashi ("All About Lily Chou-Chou") while dancer and actor Papaya Suzuki provides the film's indelible choreography.
