Hello Folks,

Jonny T here with my review of the just released Do Elephants Pray?

Do Elephants Pray? Tells the story of Callum Cutter (Jonnie Hurn) who runs a failing firm with employees that seem non too bothered at the demise of the company, He is a dreamer and constantly dreams of anywhere better than where he is on a day to day basis.

The film opens up with a scene of a beautiful autumnal forest full of wildlife when all of a sudden we see him running through the woods naked where he then stumbles upon himself practicing Tai Chi by the side of a lake, we then see him slowly awaken and in his Weekly Tai Chi class which seems his only solace in his grey drab world.

At his Tai Chi class he meets French girl Milika(Julie Dray) who seems the complete opposite of Callum, Free spirited, Ambitious and not a care in the world, Basically everything he wants to be and to escape his corporate chains, This leads to them going to a local part where they lay on a roundabout whilst talking about ambition, she asks him a question and he replies she the disappears and leaves him an answer on a piece of paper that solely says “Wrong Answer” he returns to his grim block of flats and throws the paper away only to retrieve it seconds later and the realisation hit’s him that she is what he wants and needs to be and must see her again. He then acquires the book “Everything you know is wrong” and it’s the final piece of his escapism in his mind, he now know what he really wants from life.

The film carries on with daily routine but he becomes more and more distant as well as meeting up with Malika one day he decides enough is enough and they take off on a trip, upon this trip she shows him the true meaning of the world and what it is he can escape from and become.

All in all a great little film, full of pondering questions which make you think of what it is really all about, expertly shot with some great visuals and performances especially from his employee Marrlen (Marc Warren) who is annoying as hell and I’m sure every workplace has one of these people!

Well worth a look, a slow burning mind provoking movie and I for one will be keeping an eye out for more of Director’s Paul Hills Movies.

7.5/10
