BORGEN "Trilogy" Box Set released for Christmas

UK DVD & BLU-RAY BOX-SET RELEASE:
MONDAY 16th DECEMBER 2013

PLUS "TRILOGY" BOX-SET
CONTAINING ALL 3 SEASONS

Arrow Films’ Nordic Noir label is pleased to confirm that the highly anticipated third and final season of BAFTA award winning Danish political drama, BORGEN, will be released as a DVD & Blu-ray box set in time for Xmas, on Monday 16th December 2013.

Also released on the same day is the "TRILOGY" box-set, which will see every episode of the seminal Nordic show housed together in deluxe "Black mist" packaging, complete with embossed and glossed Danish government seal.

One of the most popular foreign-language programmes ever shown in the UK, BORGEN achieved record-breaking ratings for a Nordic series debut when it first aired on BBC Four back in January 2012, and was awarded the prestigious "Best International Award" at the BAFTAs later that year. A second series followed to mass acclaim in early 2013, capped with a visit.

Created by Adam Price, who’s next project is a collaboration with House Of Cards writer Michael Dobbs, BORGEN’s crossover appeal works on many different levels. Hailed as Denmark’s answer to the West Wing, the series has been lovingly embraced by straight-laced drama-lovers, subtitled television enthusiasts and die-hard politicos alike. Recounting the same intelligence, depth, and commitment as The Killing, BORGEN richly rewards those willing to look a little further afield to get their TV fix.

Such has been the cultural impact of BORGEN in the UK; the show is frequently referred to by MPs, and mentioned when discussing world and EU Politics, as well as our own coalition government.

In BORGEN Season 1, we met Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), a brilliant politician who becomes Denmark’s first ever female prime minister. We followed her through the early stages of her premiership, as she juggles the high demands of her profession with her personal life.

As Season 2 began, Birgitte has been in power for two years, years that have severely taken their toll on her family. She must now balance her role of PM with that of divorcée and single-mother. Politically, she earned the respect of both her allies as well as enemies, but tensions between the parties reach fever pitch over Denmark’s participation in the Afghanistan war against the Taliban.

In the closing moments of Season 2 we saw Birgitte, a whisker ahead in the polls, call a snap election... it was an election she would sadly go on to lose. Season 3 begins 2½ years later and the Birgitte Nyborg we now know is a very different woman to the one we left at the end of Season 2. She has left politics completely, relinquishing her party leadership to make way for new blood, and is now a highly-paid speaker in business circles, who sits on the boards of several blue chip corporations.

Journalist Katrine Fønsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen) and Birgitte’s former spin doctor Kasper Juul (Pilou Asbæk) now have a child together, Gustav, but are sadly not living happily ever after... their relationship came to an end and they are living apart, sharing custody of their son whilst juggling their ever-more-demanding political broadcasting careers.

Katrine is now the leading presenter of TV1, whilst Kasper has been given his own show alongside the station’s head of news Troben Friis (Søren Malling).

Meanwhile, Birgitte Nyborg’s old friend and mentor, Bent Sejrø (Lars Knutzen), is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the political situation in Denmark and the compromises the Moderate Party are making under its new leadership... still in touch with Birgitte, can he persuade the former Statsminister to return to the arena?!
