Well, First of all I didn't even realise that they were even remaking The Town That Dreaded Sundown but they have and it will be shown in my very own home town of Nottingham at this years MAYHEM festival. I only saw the original version from 1976 for the 1st time last year and what a bizarre film it was. Pre-Dating many slasher movies and using the cloth sack with eye cut outs as seen in the 1st couple of Friday 13th movies it tells the true tale of a town that was overcome with terror when people started to be killed at random.
Much like the Zodiac killer it is said that the killer known a the phantom killer was never caught. Also very odd is that in the town where it happened every year they show the original movie on a big screen in a local park and it is massively popular. The original version had some quite violent and disturbing scenes but also a weird comedic element especially one memorable scene with cops chasing the killer down train tracks to almost a Benny Hill theme tune!
So I can't wait to catch this at the festival, It is being shown on Halloween at 8pm just before the 40th anniversary screening of the classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre so hopefully it will be a great double bill.
Keep your on the site for the review!
