Stay on your sofa watching Saturday Morning Kitchen with James Martin whilst he talks dribble to chef's who are making dishes that you never have a hope in hell of making whilst inter-cut with clips from Keith Floyd, Rick Stein, Omlette challengezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....................
No you don't! Get yourself together get on a bus or taxi (That way you can have a hair of the dog pint) and get yourself down to an epic Saturday of MAYHEM festival. And here are what treats lay ahead........
Kicking off at 12pm with Dead Snow 2:Red VS Dead. Yes the frozen Nazi Zombies are back! From what i'm hearing this is equally as good as Dead Snow if not better from all reports especially the humour has been ramped up to a Spinal Tap 11!

DEAD SNOW 2-OFFICIAL TRAILER.

After being thoroughly awaken from your Halloween slumber by Nazi Zombies next up at 2pm we have Starry Eyes which sounds very interesting indeed and has been getting some great reactions from what I have read it tells the tale of an Hollywood actress who decides to take a satanic route to securing success "A bloody Collision of body horror and film industry satire" Well you can't beat a bit of Saturday Afternoon Satanism!

STARRY EYES-OFFICIAL TRAILER

Next up at 4pm we have a new movie from New Zealand called Housebound and described as "The Very Best Horror Movie produced in the country since BRAINDEAD(DEAD ALIVE)" Starburst. Very high praise indeed. It tells the story of Kylie who is placed under house arrest and things are much worse than she expected. The house is haunted and also her mums, who she hates. Said to be a blend of Gothic chills and blood splattered laughs, Bring it on I say!

HOUSEBOUND-OFFICIAL TRAILER

And then on to 6:30 pm and the annual feature of SCARY SHORTS, "Featuring the best short films from around the world, the UK and closer to home.A sinister showcase of the scary, the weird and wonderous" If you have been to MAYHEM or maybe not, I would urge you to along to Scary Shorts as it's always a blast!

On to 9:30 PM and a showing of The Canal with special guests Director Ivan Kavanagh and Producer Anne Marie Naughton. It tells the story of David who is a films Archivist and suspects his wife is having an affair, As the pressure mounts, an old film starts to unsettle and disturb him and the new family home begins to reveal some very dark secrets indeed....
It has to be said as with previous festivals these events with the special guests are always a great highlight of the festival and this certainly looks to definitely be one of those occasions!

THE CANAL - Official Trailer.

That's not all folks! No its no, 11:30PM See's the showing of in my opinion a very underated slasher movie STAGEFRIGHT (AQUARRIUS/DELERIA) Directed by the briliant Michele Soavi. Rehearsing a musical based on real life serial killer named The Night Owl, A bickering cast are locked in overnight unaware that an escaped lunatic has joined them. Now from that synopsis what a great film to take you through the midnight hour!

MAYHEM FESTIVALS HALLOWEEN NIGHT LINE UP!

Hello folks!
Well with less than a week to go I thought I'd share MAYHEM festivals Friday night Halloween line up and what a line up it is!
Starting a 6PM with Coherence
"On the night of an astronomical anomaly a group of friends gather for a dinner party and as their relationships strain reality starts to alter"

"EXCELLENT...COMPLETELY REARRANGES YOUR BRAIN!" FILM SCHOOL REJECTS

OFFICIAL TRAILER.

Next up at 8pm we have the re-imagining of The Town That Dreaded Sundown, At 1st when I heard this was on I thought it was just a straight up remake of the 70's classic but as you may well know they never caught the Phantom Killer and 65 years after the original events it seems he has returned. From what I've heard from people that have seen it so far is that is packed full of sex and violence, what more could you want on Halloween!!

OFFICIAL TRAILER

Last up we they something very special indeed,At 10pm To celebrate the 40th anniversary MAYHEM will be showing on the big screen the classic that is TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Now there really is not a lot I can say about this apart from I saw it on the big screen a few years back and it is a totally different experience from seeing it at home. Especially the last twenty minutes with The Family and the seemingly never ender screams. a definite must see that will leave your ears ringing deep into the early hours of Halloween.

40th anniversary trailer.

So hope to see you all there! Link below for ticket info and did i mention that for a day pass on Halloween it is only £13.50, bargain!

ASTRON-6 - WHO THE HELL ARE THEY? FIND OUT AT MAYHEM!

You may well ask who ASTRON-6 are? I did,  All I remember is that film from 2 years ago at MAYHEM film festival called MANBORG, Jesus Christ that was an experience with a hangover. Similar to the also shown Dead Sushi. By no means whatsoever in context or did any of the films resemble each other. The only thing that connected the 2 movies were how great they were. More cheese than made by the BLUR bass player and more laughs than an hour with Tim Vine, Basically what I am saying is that both movies were brilliant! It has to be said that from the reaction that MANBORG created in the bar after the showing was great, Everyone I heard loved it, a real good feel factor movie and a definite crowd pleaser.

To be honest with me being a little slack  I didn't pay that much attention to the film-makers but thought there was a definite talent there. With all the trying to reintroduce grind-house at the time because Tarantino did it and it was cool (yawn!) into every film, To me it got as boring as seeing found footage movies so in a retro way MANBORG was not only very well done but hilarious and extremely cleverly done.

So,I suppose my main point is that I was looking forward to seeing the line up revealed for the 2014 Mayhem festival and when it was I thought Thursday October 30th a night with ASTRON-6 who the hell are they? Then it all unravelled,BIO-COP, MANBORG AND FATHERS DAY?FUCK YEAH!! So with less than a week to go and from what I'm hearing the tickets are going pretty sharpish and not only on the night will Mayhem be showing ASTRON-6 Shorts showcase (90min) but the brand new feature that has been shown worldwide at festivals The Editor. Which has been getting some brilliant reviews desrcibed as mind bending and more impressive to me is the description of "IMAGINE IF THE DIRECTORS OF AIRPLANE MADE FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET" From the Toronto film festival. Now if that doesn't get you excited what the hell will?
But on a closing note, It is great to see how ASTRON-6 has grown and been accepted and from what I have seen so far and the reviews for The Editor have been great so not only are this bunch of a loons a bunch of loons to keep an eye on but they will be in attendance at this years Mayhem festival!!Yes that's right the team behind Bio-Cop, Fathers Day and Manborg, Adam Brooks, Conor Sweeney  and Matthew Kennedy will be there at this years festival. So like me if you had never heard of ASTRON-6  you really should check out their movies and grab yourself a ticket and come to Nottingham for what promises to be a very special night indeed, 5 more sleeps to Mayhem. That is all,
Jonny T.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown 2014 a this years MAYHEM festival!

Well, First of all I didn't even realise that they were even remaking The Town That Dreaded Sundown but they have and it will be shown in my very own home town of Nottingham at this years MAYHEM festival. I only saw the original version from 1976 for the 1st time last year and what a bizarre film it was. Pre-Dating many slasher movies and using the cloth sack with eye cut outs as seen in the 1st couple of Friday 13th movies it tells the true tale of a town that was overcome with terror when people started to be killed at random.
Much like the Zodiac killer it is said that the killer known a the phantom killer was never caught. Also very odd is that in the town where it happened every year they show the original movie on a big screen in a local park and it is massively popular. The original version had some quite violent and disturbing scenes but also a weird comedic element especially one memorable scene with cops chasing the killer down train tracks to almost a Benny Hill theme tune!
So I can't wait to catch this at the festival, It is being shown on Halloween at 8pm just before the 40th anniversary screening of the classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre so hopefully it will be a great double bill.
Keep your on the site for the review!
